Measuring For Roller Blinds

Please take a moment to ensure you order the correct size.

It's best to use a metal tape measure.

Width

When fitting the blind outside the window recess, make sure you allow 75mm (3") past each side.

When blinds fit inside the recess you need the exact size.

All roller blinds are: -

Simple to fix.
Ready to hang.
Easily reduced in width.
Operated by beaded side chain controls.

Length

Roller blinds are a standard 160cm (63") drop

Standard Fabric Roller Blinds

Available widths are :-

61cm (24")
91cm (36")
122cm (48")
183cm (72")

These are the width of the fabric.

The total width of the blind after allowing for the fittings & brackets will be approx. 35mm (1.5") wider than the above sizes.

Blackout Fabric Roller Blinds

Available widths are :-

61cm (24")
91cm (36")
122cm (48")
183cm (72")

The above are actual overall widths of the blind including fittings & brackets.

All sizes are approximate.

Measuring for Velux Blinds

Every Velux roof window has a unique data plate that gives the type and size of the window as illustrated below.

In this example the model is GGL SO6. Simply quote the number on the plate to order your blind. No measurements are needed.

Measuring for Curtains

Always try to use a metal tapemeasure.

Our ready-made curtains are sold in pairs (unless indicated)

Sizes are those of each curtain. The first size is always the approx. width of the curtain and the second the approx. overall length.

Example: Buy 46" x 72" curtains, and you will get two curtains each measuring 46" wide and 72" long.

Width

Measure the width of your curtain track or pole. Don't include any end finials, and don't measure the width of the window.

If you have still to fit a track or pole, this usually fits about 4 - 6 inches (10 - 15cms) above the window and projects about 6 inches (15cms) past each side.

Curtains need to be a lot wider than the track or pole to produce an attractive "full" look when gathered.

For curtains with a 3 inch (75mm) tape heading it is usual for the combined width of the curtains to be double (or as near as possible) the length of the track or pole. We strongly advise that you do not use sizes adding up to less than 1.5 times the track length.

For your convenience please refer to this guide chart:

Curtains with Eyelet headings may use slightly less width – but if you want the curtains to close and not to look flat look when closed we recommend you use no less than 1½ times the track length.

Length

Decide where you wish the curtains to finish.

Using a 3" tape heading on a curtain track: - measure from the top of the track.
Using a 3" tape heading on a curtain pole: - measure from the small eye on the ring
Using an Eyelet heading on a curtain pole: - measure from the top of the pole (the curtain top will start approx. 1.5" above the pole - allow for this in your size)

Popular finishing positions are: -

Sill length: We suggest that these finish approx. 0.5" (1.5cm) above the window sill
Below the sill: We suggest 6" (15cms) below the sill is about right for most people.
Floor length: We suggest that the curtains end about 0.5" to 1" above the floor. Remember to allow for any flooring, if this is not down, when measuring.
